CABIDA was created to connect certified forestry projects (reforestation, improved forest management, or conservation) with companies and institutions seeking to offset their emissions, thereby boosting a market where most of the carbon credits generated in Spain are not yet being traded. Registering as a forestry project promoter involves several steps: registering as a credit seller on the platform, providing the organization's information, signing an agreement with the CABIDA management team, reviewing and validating the application, and, once validated, registering the projects and certified credits for inclusion in the auction.
From there, the loans are grouped into lots (defined by volume, standard, location, and conditions) with a reference starting price, and are subjected to a competitive bidding process in which the buyers themselves determine the final price. At the close of the auction, a legally binding digital contract is formalized, and the status of the loans is updated in the platform's registry, preventing double counting.
CABIDA incorporates traceability systems and digital legal contracts, and is compatible with standards such as the National Carbon Footprint Registry of the Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge (MITECO), Verra and Gold Standard.
The closing of the first CABIDA auction will take place on Tuesday, September 29, from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., at the Science and Technology Station (Dr. José Luis Santamaría Street, Burgos). The event will include the live closing of the auction and the announcement of the number of loans awarded. Participation in this event is free, but registration is required via this form. The event is also made possible thanks to the collaboration of the Burgos City Council.
Julia Bueso, CABIDA's product director, highlighted that a significant portion of the acquisition projects developed so far in Spain are located in Castile and León, a region which, in her opinion, will account for a substantial percentage of transactions nationwide. In this regard, Bueso emphasized that "Castile and León is one of the autonomous communities with the most extensive forestry sectors and the highest levels of economic activity stemming from forestry.".
Another aspect highlighted by CABIDA's product director is that one of the platform's objectives is "to open the market to smaller initiatives, which until now have found it more difficult to sell their credits." According to Bueso herself, the intention is for any certified forestry project, large or small, to have a direct and transparent channel to sell its carbon credits.
